Endpoint Central - About Configuring and Publishing a Self Service Catalog

About Configuring and Publishing Endpoint Central - Self Service Portal

Self Service Catalog is a platform that allows in-house users to install the software they need on their own devices in a secure and controlled manner, without the need for an IT team. With this catalog configured via ManageEngine Endpoint Central, users can install specific applications that have been shared with them.

  • It reduces IT burden and eliminates manual installation processes.

  • It provides authorized access to users , allowing them to intervene only in specified applications.

  • It saves time , software can be installed quickly and silently.

Self Service Portal Configuration and Publishing Steps

1.      Self Service Portal Access Options and Appearance Settings

For users to access the Self Service Catalog on their devices, the necessary access options and view settings must be configured.

  • From the Software Deployment > Self Service Portal Settings screen:
    • You can specify catalog access options.
    • You can enable the option to provide access to users via the desktop shortcut or the EPC agent icon.
    • In the Actions section, the operations that users can perform (install, uninstall, update, etc.) can be defined.
      • Note: If the Uninstall option is selected and the package contains the uninstall command (or the package has an .msi extension), the user can uninstall the software himself.
      •
  • Via the Rebranding tab:
    • You can edit the appearance and name of the catalog.

📌 Users can access the Catalog by right-clicking on the EPC agent icon or using the desktop shortcut.

2. Preparations Before Publishing Applications on the Portal

It may take up to 90 minutes for Catalog to propagate to devices as a desktop shortcut.

In order for applications to be displayed in the Catalog, they must first be defined under Software Deployment > Packages .

  • It must be ensured that packages can be installed silently via EPC.
    • For example, for a file with an .exe extension, the installation and silent install commands must be defined correctly.
    • These commands may vary depending on the application.
    • It is recommended to verify with manual installation tests via CMD.
This step is a natural part of the Remote Installation processes and is important for error-free deployment.

3. Publishing Applications to Self Service Portal

If your packages are ready for silent installation, you can now publish them to the Self Service Portal.

  • Proceed by following the steps Self Service Portal > Publish Software Package > Computer .
    • Broadcasting is usually computer based (except for certain applications).

Publishing Steps:

a. The Custom Group to be broadcasted is selected.
- If they do not already exist, you can create groups based on department or user.

b. Applications defined under Packages are listed in the Available Software section. The application to be published is dragged to the right side (Selected Software).

c. Click on the three dots on the right of the application and select Package Settings .
- Here it is determined whether the application will be installed with System Account or Run as User .
- If users have limited permissions, it is recommended that you choose the Run as User option with an admin authorized user.

d. After the settings are completed, the application is published to the selected group by clicking the Publish button at the bottom of the screen.

4. User Installs the Application via Catalog

Users in the group where the app is published can see the app when they access the Catalog.

  • If the application is not yet visible, synchronization can be triggered by clicking the Sync button.
  • When the application arrives, you can start the installation with the Install option.
    • If the package is configured correctly, the installation will complete silently .
